She lurks in your life. She drags your ego down. She pulls the dark into any situation. In short, she is just a pill. She’s not your wife, nor the nag next door. She’s Debbie Downer – or if you want her to be male, she’s Negative Ned.
Life goes the same way but when you are in the middle of the Winter doldrums or a series of several negative events, it can feel oppressive. Depressing and just a bummer of a mood.
April 2013 was that way for me. (I am depressing myself just thinking of it)
To remember … those past lulls have always led to a revival and something better. Take your mind to that outside perspective, remembering that this is temporary.
And when this leads to fear and self-doubt, you may need a thump on the side of the head.
Take these steps to get in a better place:
- Do something for yourself
- Do something for others
- Take deep breaths, stay busy, and let things go.
Right after I completed the first draft of this edition of the leadership tip, my 17-year old daughter sensed my low mood, and said “This will make feel better mom” and she showed me a video of elephants painting beautiful canvases as an art. Sometimes those little things ….
