Your day is riddled with problems. Not terrible ones – just ho-hum everyday stuff. Is nothing predictable and smooth-sailing?
Leadership is filled with problem-solving and problems are solved through being more innovative. Innovation requires more creativity. And creativity comes from several intentional activities to challenge the mind.
Putting mental challenges in front of you is a great part of building your leadership. An increased capacity to think outside of the box is proven to lead to more complex reasoning and problem-solving.
These challenges include non-traditional thinking exercises, placing yourself in unusual or new environments, and studying different industries as a comparison for how to solve something.
Set aside a mental reminder for yourself when you see an opportunity to be more creative. Rather than taking the normal route, push back by asking yourself what could be a different approach. Pull others in by asking them questions like “what would be an ideal way to get this solved?” or “if you could wave a magic wand to eliminate this problem, how would you do it?”
Ouch – feel that brain flex?
